No matter what parts of our leadership say, we know that the Labour Movement is safer for our members and directly affected communities with cops out of CUPE. This is a campaign for grassroots labour activists, concerned members of BIPOC and other directly affected communities, and others targeted by State repression to ensure that CUPE remains a viable partner and resource to those seeking justice in our Province and beyond.
Right now, Mark Hancock is moving to ‘welcome’ RCMP intercept analysts and other officials ‘into the family’ in spite of the centuries of repression brought by the RCMP against black and indigenous communities in so-called Canada. Moreover, the RCMP has been an essential instrument against political organizing from the Red Scares of the 20th Century to the 2010 G20 Summit in Toronto. We cannot forget that it is the RCMP that was essential in countless strike-breaking activities in Canadian history from the Winnipeg General Strike of 1919 onward to more recent survieliance of labour activists through Operation SITKA and related actions revealed through Freedom of Information requests.
Is this what we want in our family? Keep the spies out of our movement and the cops out of CUPE.
